William Filipponi Biography

I am William Filipponi, BSHA, CRCST, CIS, CHL, and I have dedicated 34 years to the Sterile Processing profession. My career has taken me through every role in the field, giving me a deep, firsthand understanding of the work, the challenges, and the critical role Sterile Processing plays in patient safety. Today, I serve as the Director of Sterile Processing at NKC Health, where I lead the complete lifecycle of surgical instrument management—from decontamination and sterilization to inspection, assembly and distribution. My mission is to ensure that every instrument delivered to the Operating Room meets the highest standards of safety, precision and readiness.  

I have been fortunate to learn from some of the most respected mentors in the industry, and I carry forward their lessons every day. I believe mentorship is not optional—it is a responsibility. My leadership philosophy is rooted in lifting those who need to be lifted, recognizing those who deserve recognition, and helping those who need help. I am an organized, focused producer of results, known for implementing process improvements that enhance workflow efficiency, strengthen quality assurance, and maintain full compliance with Joint Commission, CMS, and other regulatory standards. 

Beyond my role at NKC Health, I am deeply committed to advancing the Sterile Processing profession at the regional and national levels. I currently serve as President of the Kansas City Metro Chapter of the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (KCMCHSPA) and am the Past President of the Central Service Association of Western Pennsylvania (CSAWPA). In these roles, I am proactively engaged in the mission of HSPA and the priorities of its Executive Board. I take this responsibility seriously—working to communicate the association’s mission to as many professionals as possible, expand awareness of best practices, and strengthen the voice of Sterile Processing professionals within the broader healthcare community. 

My career has been defined by technical mastery, strategic vision, and a genuine commitment to the people and profession I serve. Whether leading a high-performing team, mentoring the next generation, or representing our industry, my focus remains the same: advancing patient safety, operational excellence, and the recognition of Sterile Processing as a vital component of healthcare.
