Kelly Swails Biography

I am a dedicated Sterile Processing leader focused on driving operational excellence through employee engagement. I am committed to the belief that when SPD staff are fully engaged and valued, they deliver superior results, including increased productivity, higher retention, and enhanced instrument quality. By empowering frontline staff—the vital backbone of healthcare—I aim to bridge the gap between the SPD and Operating Room, reducing delayed starts and ensuring the highest standards of patient safety and satisfaction.  

Holding a master’s degree in organizational leadership with a focus on employee engagement, I bring a wealth of experience to the table. My career began as a surgical technologist before transitioning into the Sterile Processing realm, where I have led diverse teams of over 150 employees. In addition to my leadership experience, I have managed clinical teams for an instrument tracking company and hold the prestigious “Gold Crown” status with HSPA, having earned four specialized certifications.  

I am an accomplished sterile processing expert, recognized as a featured speaker for the HSPA Annual Conference, Beyond Clean, and Censis Technologies. I contribute significantly to the industry through my work with the HSPA Education Advisory Committee, Test Development, and international educational exchanges. I have also held leadership roles with the Minnesota Chapter of HSPA and the Upper Midwest Health Expo.
