Cynthia Timm Biography

I am an experienced leader with a distinguished career in Sterile Processing. I began my journey as a frontline technician and have progressively advanced through several key roles, including Lead Technician, Supervisor, Chief of Sterile Processing and, finally, my current position as a Health System Specialist, Sterile Processing Subject Matter Expert for the Veterans Health Administration.

I am widely recognized as a champion for others to follow in my footsteps, as I encourage Sterile Processing leaders to develop a succession plan and career ladder that allows for staff advancement. I excel in situations that utilize my troubleshooting and complex problem-solving skills to find objective solutions. My ability to provide clarity in uncertain situations and communicate appropriate next steps to those seeking guidance has been a hallmark of my career.

As a wife and daughter of US Air Force veterans, my professional career has been dedicated to supporting the healthcare needs of active-duty service members and veterans. I initially worked as a civilian employee for the US Navy before transitioning to the Veterans Health Administration.

In addition to my professional responsibilities, I have been actively involved with HSPA. I have served as an HSPA Certification Council Member for the past five years, during which I held the roles of Vice-Chair and Chair. I have also contributed as a Subject Matter Expert in several certification exam work groups. I am a member of the First Coast Sterile Processing Association, located in Northeast Florida, and a voting member of the AAMI Working Group 44, with a focus on steam sterilization in dental clinics.

My goal is to support the HSPA mission by promoting patient safety, advancing Sterile Processing expertise, and recognizing professionals in the Sterile Processing field. I aim to contribute to HSPA’s objectives by fostering educational advancements, increasing member engagement, and leveraging HSPA’s reputation to elevate the visibility and credibility of the Sterile Processing profession.

My vision for the future of HSPA includes continued organizational growth while upholding HSPA’s reputation for excellence.
