Sara Vinson Biography

Serving on the HSPA Board of Directors for the past two years has been truly a rewarding and eye-opening experience. So much goes on behind the scenes to ensure thoughtful educational opportunities and offerings are made available to our professionals. I was fortunate to have started my term at the beginning of a new strategic planning cycle. The strategic plan is reviewed and updated on a three-year cycle. Serving as President-Elect would allow me to ensure continuity of the final year of the existing plan. As President, I would be able to spearhead the conversations and facilitate the new Board Members with the next three-year strategic plan. This timing would be a tremendous honor and opportunity to provide meaningful input to one of the most important aspects of serving on the HSPA Board. The plan ensures continued growth, a shared vision, and membership focus for HSPAs longevity and relevance within our industry.

In the Spring of 2024, the Board took a trip to Washington, D.C. to visit Capitol Hill and share the amazing work Sterile Processing (SP) professionals do across the country. We were able to advocate for our professionals in a significant way to bring increased awareness to our unique challenges and needs. By bringing awareness to the profession and supporting continuous education, patient experiences and outcomes become safer.

The mission and vision of HSPA are to promote continuous education and provide professional development, and more importantly to bring awareness to the profession. My advocacy for the SP profession can be seen through my commitment to my team members and my service on the Board of Directors. I am committed to continuing to support education through my participation as a learner during local and national events and to continue volunteering to present on topics I am passionate about. I have the privilege to serve as a local HSPA Chapter member as well.

I have worked in the SP profession for 24 years. My various roles held within the discipline make me uniquely qualified to serve as HSPA President. I have first-hand experience and gained perspective on what the challenges and needs are at every staffing level. I have had the opportunity to work in various healthcare settings—academic, VA, and community-based hospitals. My desire to advance my career in leadership led me to complete my Bachelor’s in Organizational Studies and my Master’s in Business Administration.
