Kyree U. Thomas Biography

I am a seasoned healthcare professional with over a decade-long career journey that began as a Surgical Technologist in a Trauma One hospital. My passion for the Operating Room (OR) led to diverse experience across specialties like Ortho, Neuro and Cardiac surgery.

In 2013, after military training in the Air Force, I transitioned to Sterile Processing, recognizing its vast opportunities. Starting as an instrument technician, I swiftly progressed to roles like supervisor, educator and manager. With a bachelor’s degree in human biology and an MBA in Healthcare Management, I blends clinical expertise with managerial acumen.

If elected to serve as a Director on the HSPA Board, I would promote patient safety worldwide by raising the level of expertise and recognition for those in the Sterile Processing profession by being an influential leader to our current and future generation of professionals. Being an influential leader means you are responsible for building a stronger foundation for the present and future. This means a stronger present and future for our patients, our professionals and our profession. Being an influential leader is knowing when to lead your team but also knowing when to be a student and learn from your team. Having the ability to support your team in staffing challenges or being a voice to fight for better work conditions and equipment is what many professionals looks for in their leadership. Being an influential leader means being the leader who inspired you to be great. The more your team feels supported, the more they will support the mission. The more your team feels heard, the harder they will work to support the mission. The more appreciated your staff feels directly impacts the quality of the product they produce—and the quality of the product produced by our professionals directly impacts patient advocacy and safety. My leadership style is defined by a focus on transformational and servant leadership, ensuring top-notch patient care and fostering a cohesive team environment.

I currently work as a Clinical Educator of Sterile Processing in metro Atlanta. I was the Treasurer for our HSPA Georgia chapter and am now the chapter’s elected Vice-President. Additionally, I am a member of our sister chapter in Georgia. I have completed two community volunteer events to spread knowledge and opportunities about Sterile Processing. The goal is for us all to be successful in providing quality patient care. I strive not only to be a resource and support to our new and experienced sterile processing professionals but also to be an example to lead by.
