Dusty Ray Glass Biography

I am deeply honored to present myself as a candidate for the position of Director on the HSPA Board. With a career spanning some of the most demanding environments in healthcare, I bring a wealth of experience, a passion for excellence, and an unwavering commitment to advancing patient safety and Sterile Processing. 

As a former combat medic, I gained firsthand experience in diverse, high-pressure environments that required adapting and working effectively in multidisciplinary teams. This experience reinforced the importance of leadership, communication and teamwork.  

I’ve managed some of the busiest Level 1 trauma centers, where I contributed to teams that achieved top-tier patient safety ratings. These high-stakes environments shaped my approach to Sterile Processing—requiring a level of precision and attention to detail that I’ve carried with me throughout my career. This has taught me how to manage complex situations, prioritize patient safety, and maintain composure in high-pressure settings.  

In addition to my trauma center experience, I’ve worked alongside some of the top orthopedic surgeons in small surgery centers, where I was able to bring innovation and efficiency to Sterile Processing processes. Whether in a small surgical setting or a high-volume trauma center, I’ve learned that success is built on collaboration, communication and continuous improvement. I’ve had the privilege of implementing best practices in sterilization, inventory management, and quality assurance, as demonstrated by being awarded HSPA’s SP quality award in 2023.  

If elected as an HSPA Director, my primary goal will be to advocate for developing and implementing a new instrument repair certification. This certification would expand membership opportunities and empower professionals in Sterile Processing to advance their careers and enhance their expertise. Furthermore, I am passionate about creating a culture of ongoing education and mentorship, helping individuals in our field grow, develop and achieve the highest level of professional competence.  

Sterile Processing is at the heart of patient safety and care, and I am deeply committed to ensuring that this vital work continues to evolve and excel.
