Stacey MacArthur Biography

What value would you bring to the ongoing efforts of HSPA as a Board member of the organization?

As a member of the HSPA Board of Directors, I would bring the values of respect, dependability and inclusivity.

Respect: I have been a Sterile Processing professional for 35 years. I love the profession and have a profound respect for the caregivers who choose this life-saving work. I have always tried to find ways to promote growth and professional pride.

Dependability: I carry with me a deep sense of personal responsibility. When I commit to something, I give it my all. I pride myself on my history of punctuality, reliable attendance, and strong participation. I have proven myself to be trustworthy and meet deadlines. I am a bit of a perfectionist, so I commit to putting forth the best quality work for the good of whatever project I undertake.

Inclusivity: I look for ways to promote or increase opportunities for others to get involved or increase participation. We have a lot of great ideas and energy that we can call upon from our membership. I believe that many hands (and brains) decrease the burden and increase the efficiency (and fun) in getting stuff done.

How would you support the current mission of HSPA?

I feel that I have been supporting the mission (on a much smaller scale) in my professional life for years. I developed myself professionally, becoming the first in my department to hold a national certification. Then, I looked for ways to increase knowledge within my team. I sought out hard trays and not only learned how to assemble them, but learned how they were used and shared that information with my team. I tutored other technicians so they could get their certifications. From there, I went on to teach Sterile Processing and surgical technicians at a local college. I look for new things to learn and new opportunities for not only my own growth, but for the growth of my team and my colleagues.

Like a pebble tossed into a body of still water, your circle of influence widens and expands from yourself to your work team, your hospital, your community and beyond. I try to expand my experiences and influence to promote this profession. Being elected to the Board of Directors would be a wonderful way to continue to expand my influence and give back to this admirable profession.

Describe any unique qualifications such as leadership, life, and business expertise that may set you apart from other candidates and position you as an effective board member.

I have worked my way through nearly every position within Sterile Processing. I have worked in small facilities and very large facilities and even served on mission trips in Guatemala, which gives me a unique perspective. I worked full time and raised three children while putting myself through college and graduate school. I have a master’s degree in leadership and organizational leadership and spent more than a decade teaching Sterile Processing and surgical tech students at a local college. I have been active in other civic and non-profit organizations and have a strong track record of increasing membership, involvement and exceeding service or fundraising goals.
