Juan Ramos Biography

I have been where you are. I started as a Central Supply Room Technician, learning the work, earning my place, and discovering what this profession truly demands. That experience never left me. Today, as Regional Director of Sterile Processing for Ascension, I partner with clinical and operational leaders across 11 states to elevate our profession at the enterprise level. But I have never forgotten where I came from, and I never will. 

I lead through influence, not authority. I build consensus, engage stakeholders, and earn trust through results. I have guided system-wide standardization, developed competency frameworks adopted across regions, and cultivated leaders who now develop others, including technicians I mentored who now lead departments of their own. I contributed to AAMI ST108 and apply ST79 and ST91 every day, because standards are not bureaucracy; they are how we protect our patients and honor our work. 

My commitment extends beyond my own organization. I am an active member of the Central Texas HSPA Chapter and have written for Healthcare Purchasing News, HSPA, and OR Today. As a Maxwell Leadership Certified Coach, Speaker, and Trainer, I invest in developing the professionals who will lead this field tomorrow. I am currently an HSPA Fellowship candidate. 

HSPA is already global. Our members serve patients in China, Egypt, Pakistan, India, the Philippines, and throughout the Americas. I want to turn that footprint into a true network, where every chapter has a voice in how we grow. Sterile Processing looks different in every country, but patient safety is universal. Bilingual in English and Spanish, I can help bridge connections across the Americas. But my focus is broader: ensuring every HSPA member, wherever they serve, has equal access to the resources and recognition this profession deserves. We rise together, or we do not rise at all. 

I am not asking for your vote because of what this seat can do for me. I am asking because of what we can do together to advance HSPA’s mission, promoting patient safety worldwide by raising the expertise and recognition of every Sterile Processing professional. That means advocating for the staffing investment and professional recognition our departments deserve, expanding accessible certification pathways, and building career ladders that give every technician a future worth staying for. You deserve a voice on this Board who understands your work. I am asking for your vote.
