HSPA Foundation-Ofstead & Associates Study Identifies New Training Model for Mastering Complex Sterile Processing Skills, Retaining Knowledge March 21, 2023 - Chicago, IL and Bloomington, MN - A first-of-its-kind study from the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) Foundation and Ofstead & Associates, Inc. involved the development and testing of an innovative and comprehensive training program for frontline Sterile Processing (SP) professionals. The findings revealed that the training model helped trainee participants master complex skills, retain knowledge and take actionable steps to address issues identified during borescope inspection of endoscopes. |

IAHCSMM Hires Federal Lobbyist to Secure Hazard Pay for Sterile Processors October 13, 2021 - Chicago, IL - The International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management (IAHCSMM) has joined forces with the Association of Surgical Technologists in hiring a federal lobbying firm, McAllister & Quinn, to help enact hazard pay for sterile processors, surgical technologists and surgical assistants for their work during COVID-19 in 2020 and 2021. Currently, the federal legislation does not include sterile processors. The lobbying firm will work to add sterile processors to the legislation along with trying to secure passage of the legislation.” |

Pennsylvania Governor Signs Bill into Law that Promotes Quality and Patient Safety October 29, 2020 - Harrisburg, PA - Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf signed legislation, HB81 (Kauffman), that requires new central service (CS) technicians entering the field to become certified and undergo continuing education. On February 21, 2019, the Pennsylvania House of Representatives passed this legislation with a unanimous vote and on October 20, 2020, the Pennsylvania Senate followed with a unanimous vote in support of the legislation. |

IAHCSMM Introduces New Legislation in Colorado for Central Service Technician Certification January 20, 2020 - Chicago, IL - On January 13, 2020, the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management (IAHCSMM) introduced certification legislation for Central Service (CS) technicians in Colorado. The legislation, SB20-087, has been referred to the Senate Health and Human Services Committee. The legislation must pass both the House and Senate by May 6, 2020. |
