In an academic medical center with a robust surgical practice, surgeons need specific instruments to perform complex surgical interventions for patients. Often this requires loaner instruments from vendor representatives. To ensure loaner instruments are accurately processed and available for a scheduled surgery, they must arrive at our Central Sterile Processing Department (CSPD) forty-eight hours prior to the surgery. To accurately process the instruments, the CSPD require a detailed count sheet and manufacturer’s Instructions for Use (IFU).
