HSPA Committees

HSPA offers a wide range of committees, each geared toward advancing information sharing, knowledge advancement and professionalism within the Sterile Processing (SP) profession and amongst the HSPA membership. Our committees provide an exciting opportunity for HSPA members to more actively participate in the Association and help steer both current and future developments for HSPA, its membership and the collective SP profession.

Committee Participation

Editorial Committee

Purpose: The Editorial Committee will assist the Editor/Communications team in providing content (articles, quotes, data, and/or insights) for publishing consideration in the Association’s PROCESS magazine, Insights e-newsletter, and/or HSPA’s trade publication columns. Committee members will also use their Sterile Processing expertise to help determine key topics of interest and unique story angles for future article development.

Composition: Chair, 5–10 committee members, staff liaison

Qualifications:

  • Must be an HSPA member
  • Must hold and maintain a CRCST in good standing; additional certifications preferred
  • Technical expertise required (including general to advanced knowledge of best practices, regulations, standards, and guidelines)
  • Must have interest in editorial content development and/or subject matter advising (strong writing skills a plus; previous writing and editing experience preferred, but not required)
  • Ability to meet publishing deadlines and work with the editor to finalize content for publishing
  • Must be able to participate in meetings (at least bi-monthly)

Education Committee

Purpose: The Educational Committee will assist the educational department in providing content to help ensure that IAHCSMM education meets industry demands.

Composition: Chair, 6–10 committee members, staff liaison

Qualifications:

  • Must be an HSPA member
  • Must hold and maintain a CRCST in good standing; additional certifications preferred
  • Technical expertise required
  • Knowledge of regulations, standards, and guidelines
  • Must actively participate in assignments
  • Must be able to participate in one online meeting per month (1 hour)

Education Teams

Purpose: The Education teams will be individual ad hoc teams that contribute to education by providing:

  • Photos
  • Videos
  • Graphics
  • Writing assignments
  • Documents

Composition: Teams will be unlimited in size

Qualifications:

  • Must be an HSPA member
  • Must hold and maintain a CRCST in good standing; additional certifications preferred
  • Technical expertise required
  • Knowledge of regulations, standards, and guidelines
  • Must actively participate in assignments
  • Must be able to participate in meetings, as required

Fellowship Committee

Purpose: HSPA's Fellowship Committee helps guide prospective Fellows through the process by providing clear criteria regarding Fellowship requirements, reviewing Fellowship paper topics and outlines, mentoring applicants, and offering valuable feedback. The committee will then select individuals for Fellowship based on set Fellowship criteria and requirements.

Composition: Chair, at least three committee members, staff liaison

Qualifications:

  • Must be an HSPA member
  • Must hold and maintain Fellowship status
  • Must be able to attend meetings, as required

Nominating Committee

Purpose: The Nominating Committee is responsible for developing a slate of candidates for open positions on the Board of Directors. The role of the IAHCSMM Nominating Committee is to review the nominations of eligible candidates for the Board of Directors (office of President-Elect, Secretary/Treasurer and Directors for the Association and select the final slate of qualified candidates for a vote by the membership.

Composition: Chair, at least three committee members, staff liaison

Qualifications:

  • Must be an HSPA member
  • Must actively participate in assignments
  • Must be able to attend all required meetings for the selection of candidates

Professional Development Committee

Purpose: The Professional Development Committee (PDC) supports and enhances the professional development of sterile processing professionals. The Committee will develop resources that will promote professional growth and development.

Composition: Chair, Vice-Chair, at least seen committee members, staff liaison

Qualifications:

  • Must be an HSPA member
  • Must hold and maintain a CRCST in good standing; additional certifications preferred
  • Must hold a position as a manager or director of Sterile Processing
  • Knowledge of regulations, standards, and guidelines
  • Must demonstrate an interest in supporting Sterile Processing career development
  • Must be able to participate in monthly conference calls
